Trevor Lawrence positive for COVID-19, will miss Boston College-Clemson

Clemson Tigers quarterback Trevor Lawrence has tested positive for COVID-19 and will miss Saturday’s game against Boston College.”Trevor has authorized us tonight to announce that he has tested positive for COVID-19 and is now in isolation,” Clemson coach Dabo Swinney said in a statement Thursday evening. “He’s doing well with mild symptoms but won’t be available for this week’s game against Boston College.

“While Trevor will certainly be missed, this is an opportunity for other guys to take over and we are excited to compete with a very good team from BC on Saturday.

Lawrence posted a statement on social media, saying his symptoms were mild and “the only thing that hurts is missing an opportunity to be with my teammates this weekend and play the game I love”

Lawrence is a favorite for the Heisman Trophy, and he hasn’t missed a game in three seasons at Clemson.

Lawrence’s COVID-19 test was taken on Wednesday. According to rules set by the ACC Medical Advisory Group, any player who tests positive for COVID-19 must self-isolate for at least 10 days after testing before resuming training, assuming they don’t. has more symptoms. It would also put Lawrence in danger of missing the November 7 showdown with No.4 Notre Dame.

Although Lawrence has never missed a start for Clemson since returning to the offense in September 2018, he was injured in the first half of his first start against Syracuse that year. Chase Brice came in relief and led a fourth quarter comeback that preserved the Tigers’ perfect record, and Clemson won the national championship.

Brice is now Duke’s starter after transferring this offseason. That likely leaves real newbie DJ Uiagalelei as the alleged starter of the Tigers. Uiagalelei had limited action, completing 12 of 19 passes for 102 yards with two rushing touchdowns. He was the QB’s first overall recruit in the country for 2020.

Lawrence was in the midst of a great start to the 2020 season, completing 71% of his throws with 21 total TDs in six games.

Information from ESPN’s Andrea Adelson and Holly Rowe was used in this report.
