Tokyo Stock Exchange glitch stops trading

TOKYO – Trading in stocks in the world’s third largest economy came to a virtual halt Thursday morning after a technical glitch shut down the Tokyo Stock Exchange and some other markets across Japan.

The outage was the result of a problem in a system that reports market information, Japan Exchange Group, the company that operates the system, said in a statement posted on its website.

The company did not give details of the cause and said it did not know when the issue would be resolved.

Trading was also halted at the Nagoya, Sapporo and Fukuoka stock exchanges, the companies that managed them said.
