“I’m laughing now at the way a thong tried to kill me.” But I am STRONG. There’s no way the hell a pair of underwear could bring this girl down! “
Hello Internet, meet Hillary. Her TikTok story of how her thong sent her to the ER (yes, you read that right) has been seen more than 5 millions time.
Basically, Hillary’s butt had been aching for weeks. When her mother ~ inspected ~ her butt, she saw nothing and suggested that Hillary go to the emergency room. Once there, the doctor told Hillary she had an abscess on her rump, the pus of which he then had to squeeze out to remove. Apparently her thong had caused a microscopic cut on her bottom which led to it.
But how did something as low-key as a thong cause Hillary so much pain ?! I reached out to Hillary for more information, and also spoke to Dr Jennifer Lincoln to see if she could provide more information on this medically less than ideal situation.
“If I ignored my abscess, it could have poisoned my blood and ultimately killed me!” Hillary told BuzzFeed. “Fortunately, my mom made me go to the emergency room, which led to surgery and no long-lasting problems. I told the story to let people know that when you have weird symptoms and have NO IDEA how they started, it’s a good idea to get it checked out. ”
But how did Hillary’s thong cause such severe pain in her butt? “The thong was too tight on me. I remember the exact moment this happened: I pulled my pants up and also pulled my thong, and pulled it a little too hard / high, ”she explained. “I felt a little pinch, but the pain went away almost instantly. I did not connect the incident to the thong before going to the doctor and he asked me if I was wearing them. Then I remembered that moment.
“This type of cyst / abscess is common, but people don’t talk about it because they think it’s ‘disgusting’. If you read the reviews [in my video], the number of people who can identify themselves is INSANE. I wasn’t expecting this at all, “Hillary continued.” I also got tons of messages (mostly from girls) thanking me for sharing my story, and even from women saying they had organized. an appointment with the doctor to be examined.
“Abscesses in the groin and anorectal area are not uncommon and can occur randomly in people more prone to infections,” said Dr. Lincoln. “As for causing abscesses in the anorectal area, it could theoretically cause a small cut in the skin due to friction, which can then become infected. So if you want to wear one, go for a loose version in soft cotton. may be better than synthetic fibers which may be more irritating to the skin, potentially more abrasive, or more likely to trap moisture and bacteria. ”
“My suggestion is not to wear tight thongs,” Hillary added. “I’m not sure my case has anything to do with the material, but I know the tightness is what made me. “
When I asked Dr Lincoln about the recovery process, she said, “What Hillary is describing here is an incision and drainage. This means the abscess (aka a pocket of pus) was numb, incised with a scalpel, and then drained. probably washed and wrapped the area with gauze, which will need to be changed frequently to help promote healthy healing of the drained area. Recovery depends on the depth and size of the abscess, but many of these heal without complications. ”
As for what Hillary thought about the whole experience? “I was full of humor about it all. I have told this story so many times and always laugh at the way a thong tried to kill me. But I am STRONG. There’s no way the hell a pair of underwear could bring this girl down! ”
“Don’t be embarrassed by things like this. The job description of a doctor does not include judging yourself. They just want to heal you and get you back to good health! 99% of the time, the doctor saw worse anyway, ”Hillary said. “Finally, don’t take life too seriously. It was a literal pain in my butt, but laughing along the way kept my spirits up and I was healed in no time. Also? LISTEN to your mom when she tells you to go to the hospital. “
