The subtle parallel between 2 scenes in episodes 3 and 9

The Rise of Skywalker was a very controversial film in the Star wars fan base. The film, released in December 2019, was the conclusion of the Skywalker saga.

There were a lot of expectations on the film, from new fans to those who have been following the story for decades. Upon its release, reviews were mixed – many fans weren’t happy with some of the creative decisions, while others felt the film summarized Skywalker’s story in the best possible way.

Quite interesting, The Rise of Skywalker pays homage to an iconic scene from the 2005 prequel film, Revenge of the Sith – even if the nod was unintentional.

When The Rise of Skywalker was first announced, viewers around the world were ecstatic. With plenty of plot points and storylines to tie together, it had to be a packed movie.

Sadly, after its release, many fans said it didn’t exactly summarize the story points that were introduced in the previous two films and completely ignored the others. There have been some complaints against the film accusing the filmmakers, especially director JJ Abrams, of trying too hard to pay fan service to some of the community’s most toxic fans.

In particular, many fans called the end of The Rise of Skywalker to be unsatisfying, claiming that the sequel trilogy didn’t provide enough context for what ultimately happened at the end.

Many critics criticized the film as well, and while it still grossed some big box office figures, it ultimately fell short of most of the predictions that were made. To date, this is a sore point with many Star wars Fans.

While the film as a whole didn’t live up to everyone’s expectations, some of the standalone scenes can only be described as stunning. One of those scenes is when Kylo Ren confronts Rey about his legacy.

The two cautiously surround each other like predators in the same arena, as Kylo Ren teases Rey about the truth of his origin.

Fans recently took to Reddit to discuss the scene, pointing out how the scene definitely echoes the one that appeared in the previous 2005 film, Revenge of the Sith.

‘Revenge of the Sith’ features scene referenced by ‘The Rise of Skywalker’

In the Reddit post, fans referenced the scene in Revenge of the Sith, where Chancellor Palpatine talks to Anakin Skywalker (who had yet to become the villainous Darth Vader) about how he actually handled the Senate behind the scenes, ultimately revealing himself as the Sith Lord Darth Sidious.

From cinematography to dialogue, the scene in The Rise of Skywalker seems to be a direct caption to that of Revenge of the Sith, right down when logging into Palpatine.

“While I despise this revelation, I love the cinematography of this scene,” one fan said. Another pointed out that while the two scenes do seem to echo each other, it was apparently unintentional, writing that “this is purely a coincidence. Because, as Daisy revealed, that wasn’t planned during filming. Ben’s dialogue was recorded in ADR. I wonder what he was originally telling her.

Other posters have discussed the idea that the parallel was accidental, detailing how many plot points changed as the trilogy progressed. Still as one fan commented, “Intentional or not, that’s always a cool parallel. “
