The Last Man begins production, with a revamp of two key roles


The FX and Hulu TV adaptation of Y: The Last Man by Vertigo Comics has officially started production, though the key roles of Agent 355 and Hero Brown are being recast.

By an official announcement from FX, Y: The last man began production in Toronto, Canada this week. Additionally, the Secret Agent and secondary protagonist Agent 355 will now be played by Ashley Romans (NOS4A2, Shameless). Meanwhile, Hero Brown – the sister of main protagonist Yorick Brown – will now be played by Olivia Thirlby (Juno, Dredd). 355 and Hero were originally intended to be played by Captain Marvelby Lashana Lynch and 28 weeks laterImogen Poots, respectivement.

Y: The last man is certainly no stranger to major overhauls. Originally, the role of Yorick was to be played by Eternals“Barry Keoghan. However, Keoghan eventually had to quit the role, with Ben Schnetzer – known for his roles in Warcraft and Punk’s Dead: SLC Punk 2 – step up to play the eponymous “Last Man”. That said, other actors remained committed to Yes throughout her development process, including Diane Lane (Jennifer Brown), Marin Ireland (Nora Brady), Juliana Canfield (Beth Deville) and Amber Tamblyn (Kimberly Cunningham). They will be joined by Diana Bang as Dr. Allison Mann and Elliot Fletcher as Sam Jordan.

Based on the Vertigo / DC comic book series of the same name by Brian K. Vaughan and Pia Guerra, Y: The last man “Crosses a post-apocalyptic world in which a cataclysmic event decimates all mammals with a Y chromosome but for a cisgender man [Yorick] and his pet monkey [Ampersand]. The series follows the survivors of this new world as they struggle with their efforts to restore what has been lost and the possibility of building something better. “FX explains that the first two episodes of the series will be written by Eliza Clark and directed by Louise Friedberg, and this” [a]All episodes of the season will be directed by women, and the production has a significant number of female department heads, including the two CEOs, the production designer, the costume designer, the casting director, the editors, the film coordinator. waterfalls and more.

Y: The last man has come a long way to the screens. After Vaughan and Guerra’s film adaptation plans failed, FX began developing a comic-based television series – simply titled Yes – in 2015. A pilot entered production in August 2018 and Yes was officially commissioned from the series in February 2019. However, the series subsequently had to replace not only its lead actor, but also its showrunners. It was later revealed that the title of the show had been changed to Y: The last man and that it would be broadcast under the FX banner on Hulu. It should arrive next year.

The series is slated to premiere under the FX on Hulu banner in 2021.
