The graves of Cilla Black and Sir Ken Dodd targeted by vandals

Sir Ken Dodd and Cilla Black saw their graves vandalized in Liverpool

The graves of entertainment icons Cilla Black and Sir Ken Dodd have been vandalized, with reports claiming ‘offensive’ graffiti has been scrawled on their headstones.

The gruesome act was discovered this morning at Liverpool’s Allerton Cemetery, where the couple are buried, with council staff now carrying out repairs to the gravestones.

A council spokesperson said “We were dismayed to discover this morning that the graves of Cilla Black and Sir Ken Dodd had been vandalized overnight. Staff carry out repairs.

“We urge anyone with information on the responsible person (s) to contact the police. ”

In an effort to restore the grave, Sir Ken’s headstone has been removed, while Black’s can be repaired on the spot, according to Liverpool Echo, who cited a community post on Facebook.

Fans of the couple on social media reacted to the vandalism, sharing their outrage.

One of them wrote alongside a newspaper article: “It’s so disgusting, damaging a gravestone is a vile thing to do, my oh my God. ”

Another asked on Twitter, “What the hell does someone have to do this?” ”

Sadly, this isn’t the first time Black’s grave has been the target of vandals, after, shortly after his burial, thieves stole a bronze plaque bearing his name.

Sir Ken died on March 11, 2018, at the age of 90, at his home in Knotty Ash, shortly after being hospitalized with a lung infection. He was buried alongside his mother Sarah and father Arthur, during a private funeral service.

Black, who died in August 2015 at the age of 72, was also buried near her parents’ graves, along with the headstone of the Blinde Date star, a marble memorial which also gives her full name, Priscilla Maria Veronica Willis.

It reads: “Bobby’s beloved wife, devoted mother and grandmother.” She celebrated life by living it and loved to entertain.

Cilla died of a stroke following a fall in her villa in Spain, during her funeral at St Mary’s Church, Woolton – the same church where she married her late husband Bobby Willis in 1969.
