PARIS (AP) – The body of a woman has been discovered in the Mediterranean Sea, bringing the number of people killed in severe mountain flooding on the border between France and Italy to at least nine. Up to 20 more are feared missing in the devastation. In Italy, rescuers recovered his body from the sea through the Ligurian province of Imperia. Five other bodies, all men, were found in the sea on Sunday near Sanremo, on the beach in the Italian border town of Ventimiglia and along the coast of Imperia. Their identity was not known. Flooding devastated mountainous areas in the southeastern region of France’s Alpes-Maritimes and the northwestern Italian regions of Liguria and Piedmont, after a storm swept through both countries on Friday and Saturday.
