The 1,675 new cases of Covid-19 in Yorkshire listed today by location

There have been 1,675 other confirmed cases of coronavirus in Yorkshire in the past day.Leeds confirmed the highest number of cases during this period, with 306; followed by Sheffield with 242.

Hull recorded the fewest cases with 38, followed by East Yorkshire which confirmed 68.

It comes as West and South Yorkshire both narrowly avoided Level 3 lockdown restrictions following difficult discussions with local leaders and government officials.

Sheffield City area mayor Dan Jarvis said he and local South Yorkshire leaders were in talks with the government on ways to reduce the spread of Covid – and those talks are expected to continue throughout weekend and until next week.

Meanwhile, Prime Minister Boris Johnson addressed the nation at a No 10 coronavirus briefing this afternoon and said he wanted to avoid a nationwide lockdown “if possible”.

He said: “We want the local approach to work, we give it the best of ourselves, we are working with local regional mayors across the country to get things done.

« […] I don’t want to see this country lock down constantly, we did in March and April. ”
