Persistent rumors that the upcoming Spider-Man film will star Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield have led Sony Pictures to comment on the matter.
“These casting rumors are not confirmed,” a Sony Pictures representative told ET Canada. The wording of this statement does not confirm or deny the casting of Maguire and Garfield, but simply says that it is not officially confirmed.
Filming is set to begin October 16 for the untitled Spider-Man 3, news and rumors about the project have become commonplace. Officially, Jamie Foxx and Benedict Cumberbatch have been confirmed to reprise their roles as Max Dillon / Electro and Doctor Strange, respectively.

Meanwhile, rumors have suggested Miles Morales will make his Marvel Cinematic Universe debut in Spider-Man 3. aditionellement, Foxx and Cumberbatch’s involvement, as well as ongoing rumors of Maguire and Garfield participating in the production, has led to speculation that the third Spider Man the film with Tom Holland could be about the multiverse. This entity will be explored in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness and WandaVision, a Marvel Studios series that will debut later this year on Disney +.
Tobey Maguire portrayed the character of Peter Parker / Spider-Man in Spider Man, Spider-Man 2 and Spider-Man 3. Meanwhile, Andrew Garfield played the same character through The Amazing Spider-Man and The Incredible Spider-Man 2.
