Service appears to have been at least partially restored for some users around 7 p.m. EST after being down for more than an hour.
The outage comes a day after Twitter and its rival Facebook made the unprecedented editorial decision to limit the scope of a New York Post article that claims to show ‘steaming’ emails linked to the Democratic presidential candidate Joe Biden and his son Hunter Biden.
The company suffered a major service outage earlier this year when the Twitter accounts of some of the country’s most famous people were compromised in an apparent Bitcoin scam in July. The victims included Joe Biden, former President Barack Obama and Tesla CEO Elon Musk.
A spokesperson for the company admitted that it was looking into the issues.
