Sainsbury’s supermarkets only allow “one adult at a time” to enter their stores in Leicester and Leicestershire. The supermarket giant made the announcement due to the new three-tier locks being put in place and added that all stores in the UK are subject to change.

The change was made to ensure the safety of shoppers when visiting stores and to reduce queues.

The supermarket requests that people come alone to shop, but added that children can visit a parent if they cannot stay at home.

In addition to department stores, Sainsbury’s ‘locals’ will also be affected.

Supermarket giant says it wants to avoid queues

Sainsbury’s told shoppers: “We ask everyone to send only one adult per household to our stores.

“It helps us keep people at a safe distance and reduce queues to enter stores. ”

The chain’s statement added, “Our store teams will ask groups of more than one adult to choose an adult to shop and ask other adults to wait.

“Children are welcome if they cannot stay at home. ”

Sainsbury’s said it would also limit the number of customers allowed in its stores at the same time and also cut the number of checkouts in supermarkets.
