The first trailer for the latest Disney film Raya and the last dragon weaves a new fantasy world.
The Southeast Asian-inspired fairy tale follows a lone warrior named Raya (Kelly Marie Tran) who must find the last dragon to save her kingdom. The dragon in question is Sisu (Awkwafina), a water dragon who can transform into a human and needs Raya’s help to reclaim his true power.
Disney announced the film at last year’s D23 Expo, revealing a first look at the art and a glimpse into Kumandra Country. The Fantastic Land is a Reinvented Land, where the remains of an ancient civilization have split into five different regions.
In this trailer, we don’t get to see the dragon, but we do see the divided world and the fearsome warrior Raya – and her designated cute animal sidekick, TukTuk.
The film was originally slated for release in November, but was delayed when Pixar Soul was originally changed for this location from its June release. Now, Raya and the last dragon is set to hit theaters again on March 12, 2021. It is still unclear whether he will follow in the footsteps of Mulan and Soul, who both skipped theaters and headed straight for Disney Plus.
