Wilshere made 197 first-team appearances for Arsenal and was among the FA Cup winning teams in 2014 and 2015; income 34 caps in England, the last of which was in the 2-1 loss to Iceland in the last 16 matches of Euro 2016.

Despite leaving London Stadium a year earlier, Wilshere would still pocket most of the £ 100,000 he would have earned had he still been part of David Moyes’ squad.

A decision to sign Wilshere seems unlikely, but with nearly £ 4million in his bank account, the financial side of it may not be considered if he offers him a short-term deal at Ibrox and a chance to prove his physical form.

After announcing his exit from West Ham, some Rangers fans have encouraged him to move to Ibrox – although some have their tongues firmly planted in their cheeks.
