Rangers agree to terms with RFA defender Tony DeAngelo

The New York Rangers have agreed to terms with restricted free agent defenseman Tony DeAngelo, the team announced Thursday.

Terms of the deal are not yet available, DeAngelo tweeted about staying in New York for another two years.

DeAngelo scored 15 goals and 53 points in 68 games for the Rangers during the 2019-20 season. The 24-year-old set career highs in several categories last season, including goals, assists, points, over / under standings and games played.

The Sewell, NJ native is tied for fourth among NHL defensemen in goals and points, and tied for ninth among defensemen in assists, power-play assists and powerplay points in 2019-2020. He also became the first Rangers defenseman to record at least 50 points in a season since Brian Leetch in 2001-02.

In 200 career NHL games, DeAngelo has registered 24 goals, 105 points and 172 penalty minutes with the Arizona Rangers and Coyotes. He was originally selected by the Tampa Bay Lightning in the first round of the 2014 NHL Draft, 19th overall.
