A Nestlé spokesperson said: “In order to maintain production at Quality Street during the Covid-19 lockdown, we have made temporary changes to the way we operate, such as operating fewer lines during a time.
“As a result, some consumers may find that they do not have all 12 varieties of Quality Street candies in their mix.
Nestlé said all 12 lines were operational again and had been for some time.
“We apologize for any disappointment caused, but hope that consumers understand why it was necessary to make these changes under such unprecedented conditions,” added the spokesperson.
A sign that customers are already turning to Christmas, there has been a surge of orders on a Quality Street website that launched last week to sell personalized boxes.
The company said it has put in extra shifts to handle orders and is warning customers that deliveries may take longer than expected.
