Grealish was the most dangerous player on the pitch and recorded nine successful catches in 12 attempts and gave Belgian right-back Timothy Castagne a scorching night.
Despite Grealish’s applause after Villa’s 1-0 win, Durham opted to make England’s decision and has twice said he kept the ball far too long.
Durham said: “When you look at James Rodriguez. He fits into a position in the team and operates from that position. He’s so tactically disciplined.
“You wonder with Jack Grealish that he sometimes retains (Villa). Listen to me, I also said last week that England wouldn’t do anything without having it on the side.
“What he needs, however, is serious coaching. Sometimes he seems to be unaware of what he’s doing and it’s OK to a point and it can be brilliant, but other times he goes to a dead end.
“There were once or twice (against Leicester) 0-0. There was a time when the ball passed to the other side of the box on the left. He has the ball at his feet and for everyone and the position he’s in, everyone would have had a shot on goal. He took 11 touches and knocked him out.
“There was one a few moments later where he threw a three on two. He must make the choice to draw one of the defenders and pass to one of his teammates on the outside. He doesn’t. He goes on, takes 12 touches of the ball and passes it to a Leicester player with nowhere else to go.
“If you are coached on how to handle this moment and how to handle these situations, you are going to become an even better player than you.
“There is no doubt that he is an incredibly talented player. You just wonder if Aston Villa and Dean Smith let him go out there and do his thing too? ”
Livid Villa supporters, meanwhile, have reacted with fury to Durham’s somewhat wild – and confusing – claims.

“It’s the worst take I’ve ever seen in my life,” said one Villa fan.
While another said, “The single boy promoted us easily and then alone kept us in place, without him and where our team was, we would probably be in Division One.” ”
A third added: “Undefeated. So how is it holding us back? Adrian, it’s a real party. ”
And a fourth commented, “Wow. You can tell he doesn’t really believe what he says. Grealish was brilliant last night. Need serious coaching, don’t you ??? On its own, we have maintained last year. start of the season. 3 assists against Liverpool… fool. ”
