Police use drone to find missing Lethbridge man

CALGARY – Lethbridge Police were able to locate a man shortly after his disappearance on Wednesday using a drone. The missing person report arrived around 8:15 p.m. from West Lethbridge, indicating that the man was last seen in a field near a house.

There were concerns for his safety as he was not dressed for sub-zero temperatures.

“Police have determined that their search for the missing person would benefit from the use of an unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV), commonly referred to as drones,” the statement read.

“Despite the challenges presented by the cool temperatures, wind and obstacles, including power lines and an electrical substation in the area, the police pilot was able to locate the man using the infrared camera of the drone.

Lethbridge Police have three drones, which have been in use since 2015.
