“I find it sad and downright pathetic to see adult women behaving this way. “
So we all grew up watching Charm and wishing we were a Halliwell sister, right? Well, the series received a modern reboot in 2018, giving a new generation the chance to fall in love with the power of three. The remake has the same name, but it features a whole new cast. And this time, the witches are all women of color!
But not everyone was happy with the reboot. Namely, two of the OG sisters.
In a recent video circulating on social media, Holly Marie Combs (who played Piper) and Rose McGowan (who played Paige) shadowed the remake.
Video opens with Holly speaking about the original Charm quit Netflix. “I think that means when you search for it they want you to find the new one Charm and not the old ones. ”
“But that sucks! Rose exclaimed as Holly laughed. “I haven’t seen him, I can’t say that. I never saw it. I’m glad people have jobs. But it can still suck. “
Well, Sarah Jeffrey (who plays Maggie in the new Charm) had something to say about it. She tweeted that the behavior of older women was “sad” and “pathetic”:
She added her hope that the ladies might find joy in other ways than ‘demeaning’ women of color:
Holly responded to Sarah’s tweet this morning saying, “That’s bullshit”:
This isn’t the first time Holly has challenged the reboot. In 2018, she tweeted about her dissatisfaction with the remake:
So far, it seems people are supporting both sides. Many are upset that the OG Charm the actors don’t recognize the power of representation in the remake:
While others think the new Charm really isn’t as good as the original, and the remake should have been done with more respect to the cast that built the name for what it is:
Do you think the OG Charm sisters were wrong to file the new show? Do you think it was fair of Sarah to call them? LMK in the comments below!
