Original ‘Charmed’ cast wrestle with remake actor

“I find it sad and downright pathetic to see adult women behaving this way. “

In case you haven’t heard, there’s a ton of drama going on in the magical community this week. Go ahead and grab your popcorn while I catch up with you in the know.

So we all grew up watching Charm and wishing we were a Halliwell sister, right? Well, the series received a modern reboot in 2018, giving a new generation the chance to fall in love with the power of three. The remake has the same name, but it features a whole new cast. And this time, the witches are all women of color!

But not everyone was happy with the reboot. Namely, two of the OG sisters.

In a recent video circulating on social media, Holly Marie Combs (who played Piper) and Rose McGowan (who played Paige) shadowed the remake.

Video opens with Holly speaking about the original Charm quit Netflix. “I think that means when you search for it they want you to find the new one Charm and not the old ones. ”

“But that sucks! Rose exclaimed as Holly laughed. “I haven’t seen him, I can’t say that. I never saw it. I’m glad people have jobs. But it can still suck. “

Well, Sarah Jeffrey (who plays Maggie in the new Charm) had something to say about it. She tweeted that the behavior of older women was “sad” and “pathetic”:

1/2 You know, I saw this earlier and refrained from saying anything. I thought it was better to let them scream into the abyss. But I want to say that I find it sad and downright pathetic to see adult women behaving in this way. https://t.co/MuyZCZjbCp

She added her hope that the ladies might find joy in other ways than ‘demeaning’ women of color:

2/2 I really hope they find their happiness elsewhere, and not in the form of belittling other WOCs. I would be embarrassed to behave that way. Peace and love for all of you. https://t.co/MuyZCZjbCp

Holly responded to Sarah’s tweet this morning saying, “That’s bullshit”:

It’s bullshit. And a lot. Clearly. People talking, excuse me for typing, derogatory accusations of a person’s character despite overwhelming evidence to the contrary due to a difference of opinion on a TV show are just plain wrong. And also honey for personal gain.

This isn’t the first time Holly has challenged the reboot. In 2018, she tweeted about her dissatisfaction with the remake:

Here is the thing. Until you ask us to rewrite it like Brad Kern did every week, don’t even think about capitalizing on our hard work. Charmed belongs to the four of us, our vast amount of writers, crews and mostly fans. FYI, you won’t deceive them by owning a title / stamp. So goodbye.

So far, it seems people are supporting both sides. Many are upset that the OG Charm the actors don’t recognize the power of representation in the remake:

@H_Combs I don’t think she laid a charge. I think she made a comment. You fight really hard against the series which finally gives your fans of color a chance to see the ones of Charmed who look like them. I would like you to understand why this is important. It hurts that you don’t.

@sarahjeffery The New Charmed embraces other cultures of witchcraft instead of just European witchcraft. And witches are Latin witchcraft (boricua). I love the new charmed. Charmed should represent a world of witchcraft.

While others think the new Charm really isn’t as good as the original, and the remake should have been done with more respect to the cast that built the name for what it is:

@sarahjeffery I don’t mean to be disrespectful when I say this, I agree with Combs. The new Charmed is not good, in terms of the storyline. The cast is amazing, no doubt, but Charmed has a special magic that no reboot could ever pull off. A sequel would have been better, honestly.

@sarahjeffery 1) Are we watching the same video? 2) If you are lucky enough to put your heart & amp; soul in your show for 5 to 8 years & amp; then 10 years later, someone comes along & amp; just doing it again with no respect for you and those who made the show – won’t you feel a little upset in any way?

Do you think the OG Charm sisters were wrong to file the new show? Do you think it was fair of Sarah to call them? LMK in the comments below!
