Nick Foles beats Tom Brady again as Chicago Bears are pressed by Tampa Bay Buccaneers

CHICAGO – Tom Brady raised four fingers as if he had one more game left, one more chance to take the win. If that’s what he thought, the three-time MVP wouldn’t say it.Brady fell to Nick Foles again, appeared to lose try counts in his last game with seconds left, and the Chicago Bears beat the Tampa Bay Buccaneers 20-19 on Thursday night after Cairo Santos threw a 38-yard field goal with 1:17 to play.

DeAndre Houston-Carson interrupted Brady’s fourth pass with 33 seconds left after Santos threw the starting basket. Brady held up four fingers, as if he had one more. Instead, Chicago took possession and came away with a narrow victory.

“I know we needed a track and I was thinking about more footage and it was poor execution,” Brady said. “I had a great opportunity there. I just didn’t perform when we needed it.

Coach Bruce Arians insisted Brady hadn’t lost sight of chess. “He knew,” Arians said.

Brady has never lost to Chicago in five games as a member of the Patriots. But facing Foles for the first time since New England’s loss to Philadelphia in Super Bowl 52, the six-time champion has again failed.

Brady pitched for 253 yards and a touchdown. But the Buccaneers (3-2) lost their three-game winning streak.

“It was a fight,” said Foles, acquired from Jacksonville in an off-season trade. “It reminded me of a good old Philly fight. Now I can do it in Chicago. I really enjoyed going into the locker room and celebrating with my teammates. I’m probably a little more tired than I thought I was just because of everything, but I’ll sleep well tonight. I think everyone is really excited about the victory.

Khalil Mack had two sacks, and the Bears (4-1) rebounded from a lackluster loss to Indianapolis.

Super Bowl 52 MVP Foles completed 30 of 42 passes for 243 yards and a touchdown on his second start after being substituted Mitchell Trubisky.

“Overall the offense made plays when they needed to and I think that’s one of the special traits that I think Nick has,” said coach Matt Nagy.

Allen Robinson had received 90 yards. Jimmy Graham caught a touchdown pass and David Montgomery ran for a score.

Brady was 25 of 41. The three-time MVP was seen yelling on the sideline late in the third quarter after a nasty walk for Tampa Bay.

“He was just telling the guys we have to wake up,” said running back Ronald Jones. “Again, we shoot each other in the foot. No way we should have lost this game.

Mike Evans had a touchdown reception.

Ryan Succop threw four field goals, including one from 25 yards to give Tampa Bay a 19-17 lead with 4:49 remaining. But nose tackle Vita Vea was taken off the field on a cart with less than two minutes remaining, after a teammate rolled onto his right leg.

The Buccaneers also committed 11 penalties for 109 yards losing for the first time since the game opener in New Orleans.

“I think turnovers, penalties, position on the pitch all lead to points and it comes down to third place, red zone, at the end of the day you’re trying to score more points than the other team and the turnovers are a big part of it and the penalties are another. a big part of that because you don’t own the football if you’re third and feature, ”Brady said. “You have to have clean games where you stay one step ahead of the descents and the distance. ”

The Buccaneers looked like they could blow this one up, taking a 13-0 lead. But the Bears turned things around in a flash, with two touchdowns in the 1:48 final of the half.

Montgomery plowed from the 3. Kyle Fuller then put a big hit on Ke’Shawn Vaughn as he caught a short pass, and Robert Quinn recovered the fumble, giving the Bears possession over Tampa Bay 27. A Graham jump made a one-handed grab in the end zone with Jamel Dean on him to carry the 12-yard pass from Foles.

Mack equaled his highest sack total since a week three win in Washington last season. The 17-game streak without two or more sacks was the longest since he was drafted by Oakland in 2014.

Buccaneers: Vaughn (chest) was injured in that big blow from Fuller. … KG Jack Quiet (hamstrings) left the game.

Ours: LG James Daniels (pectoral) was injured early in the third trimester. … KG Devante Bond (quad) was injured when the match was kicked off.
