Chelsea head coach Frank Lampard will sweat N’Golo Kante’s fitness after the midfielder was forced to miss the Nations League clash against Croatia with a muscle injury.

Kante has started every Premier League game for Chelsea this season and the 29-year-old played all 90 minutes of France’s goalless draw against Portugal last weekend.

But Didier Deschamps left Kante out of his 23-man squad to face Croatia – a repeat of the 2018 World Cup final – with Rennes’ Steven Nzonzi entering France’s starting XI in Zagreb on Wednesday night.

Antoine Griezmann and Kylian Mbappe scored on either side of Nikola Vlasic’s superb strike in the 64th minute to seal a 2-1 victory for the visitors.

According to The team, Kante appeared to be training normally on Tuesday but suffered from muscle discomfort that excluded him from the match.

Kante has reportedly been in line to make his fifth start of the Premier League campaign at home at Southampton this weekend.

Chelsea will also assess the suitability of summer signings Ben Chilwell and Edward Mendy over the next few days.

Chilwell recovered from an illness but had to withdraw from England training camp earlier this week due to a pre-existing foot injury.

There has been some good news for Chelsea this week, however, as Hakim Ziyech and Christian Pulisic were pictured in training on Wednesday.

Ziyech, who signed from Ajax for £ 33million this summer, suffered a knee problem in the pre-season and could make his Premier League debut against the Saints at Stamford Bridge.

Pulisic, meanwhile, has only made one substitute appearance for the Blues this term due to a hamstring issue, but feels confident about his fitness ahead of the game.

“It was great (comeback against Crystal Palace). I had another serious injury, and it was really hard work getting back there, ”said the American. CBS Sports asked about his fitness earlier this week.

“I’m really excited to have a few minutes before the break.

“Now I just wish we had a game earlier, to be honest. “But at least I’ll get some rest.
