PARIS (Reuters) – French health authorities on Monday reported 8,505 new COVID-19 infections in the past 24 hours, down sharply from Saturday’s record of 26,896 and Sunday’s 16,101.
Monday’s figure tends to go down as there are fewer tests being done on Sunday. The seven-day moving average of new infections, which is the weekly average of irregularities in data reporting, was above the 17,000 level for the first time since the outbreak, at 17,029.
The number of people who died in France from COVID-19 infections increased from 95 to 32,825, up from 46 on Sunday. The cumulative number of cases now stands at 743,479.
