The Canadian COVID-19 Immunity Working Group (CITF) announced on Tuesday that it will invest $ 720,000 in a research project in Montreal to estimate how many local children and adolescents have been infected with the virus that causes COVID-19.

The results of the EnCORE research project will allow health authorities to better understand the extent of transmission of the virus to children and adolescents and help determine prevention strategies in neighborhoods, schools and daycares.

The project will study children from 2 to 17 years old in daycares, elementary and secondary schools who have been randomly selected in four neighborhoods: Beaconsfield, Hochelaga-Maisonneuve, Montreal-Nord and Plateau-Mont-Royal.

All parents and legal guardians with children attending selected schools and daycares are encouraged to include their children in the study, which will also assess the prevalence of emotional disturbances and other mental health problems.
