Of course, she also sported her $ 350,000 diamond engagement ring, but there was also a new diamond ring on display which sparked speculation from royal watchers, who believed it might even be the famous aquamarine ring of Diana that Markle wore to her wedding reception and touring Australia.
Page Six has now learned that the brunette actually turned to famous jeweler Lorraine Schwartz to fashion the ring from a gift of diamonds the couple received from the Middle East.
Although Schwartz declined to comment, we are also told that she made diamond earrings from the same set.
This isn’t the first time the Sussexes have turned to Schwartz for a bit of glamor. Harry helped create a bespoke diamond eternity ring with the jeweler as a gift to mark the couple’s first wedding anniversary, which featured birthstones for himself, Markle and their baby Archie.
The prince also took the opportunity to ask Schwartz to resize and reset Meghan’s engagement ring – which features two stones that once belonged to Diana – with a delicate new diamond band.
Markle also owns a pair of emerald cut diamond studs by the jeweler that she has worn on several occasions.
While it was also speculated that Markle was wearing Diana’s iconic Cartier Tank Française gold watch ($ 5,800) in the photo, a source confirmed that it was her own mother’s watch.
The new black-and-white photo, taken by Los Angeles-based entertainment photographer Matt Sayles, was taken to promote a Time 100 talk that Markle and Harry will host on Tuesday – and recreated their engagement portrait.
Entitled “Engineering a Better World”, the conference will feature several actors, such as Reddit founder and friend Alexis Ohanian, husband of Serena Williams.
The new virtual hosting gig is one of many undertaken by the Sussexes. For the past few months, they have been participating in virtual discussions from their new Californian home.
