Wan-Bissaka, 22, and Shaw, 25, have faced criticism for their lack of contributions in the final third and neither are expected to be included in Gareth Southgate’s England squad next week. Kyle Walker, Trent Alexander-Arnold, Kieran Trippier and Reece James beat Wan-Bissaka at right-back and Shaw hasn’t played for England since September 2018, with Southgate picking Ben Chilwell as their first choice.
Beckham and Giggs finished United’s greatest midfielder, with Roy Keane and Paul Scholes at center, in the late 90s and early 2000s, and Solskjaer cited his two former teammates as examples for Wan to follow. -Bissaka and Shaw.
“These are different requirements in different systems,” Solskjaer explained. “We still have the same principles of a Man United full-back: you have to be good at defense and good to move forward.
“It’s a position we’ve always been very good at and we know we need help and even goals from them. Both have played and developed, I think they are improving.
“We don’t really have wide, wide winger like we did before at Giggsy and David Beckham, so we’re more and more dependent on full-backs coming in to give us breadth. ”
Wan-Bissaka smashed his first career goal in the 4-1 win at Newcastle earlier this month and Shaw managed just two strikes in 149 appearances for United.
