Local pizzerias join forces for Pizza for Polio fundraiser

If you’re struggling to figure out what to eat Tuesday night, why not make pizza out of it and help eradicate polio? The Rotary Club du Centenaire de LaSalle partners with local pizzerias for the annual Pizza for Polio fundraiser.

Throughout Tuesday, over a dozen pizzerias across Windsor-Essex will donate a portion of their profits to Rotary International’s Global Polio Eradication Initiative.

Coordinator Mary Lou Amlin says it’s as easy as ordering pizza.

“This money will be used to eradicate polio from around the world, which Rotary has been working on since 1988. Right now, there are only two countries in the world that have polio. These are Afghanistan and Pakistan.

She says the world is almost polio free.

“As Rotarians we say we are 99% here to try to eradicate polio. So this is another effort, it is a worldwide effort by Rotarians to raise funds to eradicate polio.

Amlin says it’s good for pizza restaurants and Rotary.

“We are delighted that they can partner with us and want to support us and support polio eradication. We are delighted with this. This year too, with COVID, it’s really good for them. It’s an opportunity to catch them. more sales. So, it’s really a win / win. ”
