George Miller is moving forward with his spin-off Mad Max: Fury Road starring Furiosa with Anya Taylor-Joy taking on the title role. Tayler-Joy will be the second actor to play Furiosa after Charlize Theron starred in Fury Road. Also attached are Chris Hemsworth and Yahya Abdul-Mateen II. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Miller has revealed his cast for the aptly titled Furiosa film. The standalone story will follow Anya Taylor-Joy as Furiosa in an origin story before meeting Tom Hardy’s Max. Hemsworth and Abdul-Mateen II were also cast in unknown roles.
Furiosa will be directed, co-written and produced by George Miller. He’s also teamed up with some Fury Road collaborators including co-writer Nico Lathouris, production designer Colin Gibson, editor Margaret Sixel, and makeup artist Lesley Vanderwalt, who won an Oscar for Fury Road Mad Max: Fury Road was a 2015 sequel / reboot of George Miller’s’ 80s Mad Max series that starred Mel Gibson in the title role. Fury Road recast Max with Tom Hardy and introduced Furiosa who was played by Charlize Theron.Fury Road was named one of the best films of 2015 and won 10 Oscar nominations including Best Picture, Best Director and Best Film Editing. Fury Road has won six awards.
Anya Taylor-Joy is best known for her role in The Witch and recently appeared in The New Mutants as Magik. Hemsworth is famous for his portrayal of Thor in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and Yahya Abdul-Mateen II played Doctor Manhattan in HBO’s limited Watchmen series.
