Jimmy Kimmel offers update on son’s pre-existing health condition in a bid to get people to vote

Jimmy Kimmel shares his personal experiences to encourage people to vote in the next election. The talk show host gave an update on his 3-year-old son and his wife Molly McNearney’s, Billy, battle for health on Thursday. Jimmy Kimmel and direct!Billy was born with congenital heart disease and had to undergo three heart surgeries after birth.

“I want to get us back to focusing on something we can’t afford to forget, which is healthcare,” Kimmel told his audience. “The vast majority of this country believes that health insurance should cover Americans with pre-existing conditions. ”

Explaining the need for affordable healthcare and for it to be a talking point during the election, Kimmel then shared a compilation of videos and photos sharing his son’s story. The emotional clip shows Billy in the NICU, on his numerous hospital visits throughout his three years of life, as well as posts from McNearney explaining the need for health care to cover pre-existing conditions.

“Families go bankrupt trying to keep loved ones alive,” she writes. “People are dying because they cannot afford to live. ”

“Moms, don’t forget. Please vote, ”reads another post before showing the video of a happy Billy living his best life. “We are raising him to fight for less fortunate children. Americans take care of each other. Vote with your heart. ”

Kimmel and McNearney also share their 6-year-old daughter Jane. The TV personality is also the father of two older children, Kevin and Katie, from a previous relationship. He first spoke about Billy’s condition in a 2017 monologue on his show.

In 2018, Kimmel told ET that his son’s health issues changed his outlook.

“It made me appreciate my life more,” he said. “It makes me more grateful in general. Hear more of what he shared in the video below.
