On Tuesday, October 13, Apple is hosting a virtual event where we expect to get a first glimpse of iPhone 12. Although there has been tons of credible rumors about the new phone price, specifications and potential 5G capabilities, one of the most interesting potential features we’ve heard about is 120Hz screen refresh rate – twice that of the iPhone 11. The number of hertz that a phone screen is capable of displaying refers to the number of frames per second, determining the speed and smoothness of the phone screen when you Scroll through apps and web pages and the games supported fluidity feel.

They say there will be four iPhone 12 models launched Tuesday: the iPhone 12 Mini (5.4 inch), iPhone 12 and 12 Pro (6.1 inch), and iPhone 12 Pro Max (6.7 inch). Some reports state that the iPhone 12 Pro and iPhone 12 Pro Max will have a refresh rate of 120Hz, while the base iPhone 12 will have a refresh rate of 60Hz.

Most phones – including the iPhone 11 – have a 60Hz refresh rate. But some high-end models, including the Samsung Galaxy S20 and the OnePlus 8 Pro, have a frequency of 120 Hz, so it’s no surprise that Apple is adding this to its repertoire.

The iPhone 12 Pro models would also have the Apple-exclusive ProMotion display, which you can find in the iPad Pro models. This technology dynamically adjusts the display to the way content moves for more responsive and smooth scrolling.

Of course, we won’t know anything for sure until the iPhone 12 models are unveiled on Tuesday (here’s how to watch the Apple event live). For more information, see how to prepare your current phone before upgrading to iPhone 12 and everything we could see Apple announce at its virtual event.
