The series aimed at kids, for those who don’t know, is one of the best Netflix has ordered so far. The series is adapted from the series of graphic novels by Luke Pearson.
The first season was added to Netflix in September 2018 and renewed a month later.
The first season covered much of the original source material, including:
- Hilda and the troll
- Hilda and the midnight giant
- Hilda and the bird parade
- Hilda and the black dog
This means that we will naturally be covering the last few books including Hilda and the Stone Forest and Hilda and the King of the Mountain more potentially delving into unpublished material.
Thanks to several confirmations, we know that season two of Hilda will finally be released on Netflix globally in fall 2020. This was then clarified at NYCC to be at some point in December 2020.
The world premiere of Hilda Season 2 will take place tomorrow at the New York International Children’s Film Festival! Do you have your ticket ?! https://t.co/r0jbq77RKY@mercuryfilmwrks @thatlukeperson @BellaRamsey @netflixfamille @netflix @NYICFF pic.twitter.com/05RTQC71W1

Will Netflix also get the next movie?
In case you haven’t heard it yet, a movie is also in production for Hilda. Details have been very scarce so far with only confirmation by a press release so far.
We expect the film to hit Netflix assuming it doesn’t get a theatrical release, but for now that’s all we know so far about any movie that will follow long after the season. two hits Netflix.
If you need even more Hilda goodness, watch this excellent interview with creator Luke Pearson via Pictoplasma. We learned that Hilda was not modeled after a specific person, but we also learned about the apprehension Luke had when the series was adapted by saying:
“On the one hand, it was very exciting, but I was also ready for it to go in a direction that was not what I wanted. Fortunately, it turned out pretty much exactly as I would have liked. Of course, this is a collaborative process and many other people are involved in the decision making. I have accepted that this is a group project now. My books are my books and the series is the series. ”
