Health Canada is recalling a product labeled as a hand sanitizer, but determined to be counterfeit.
The ministry said a counterfeit version of the authorized Daily Shield hand sanitizer was found for sale at a Dollarama store in Thunder Bay.

Health Canada warns that the fake version may not be effective in killing bacteria and viruses and could pose serious health risks.

It also states that the unauthorized product is suspected of containing methanol, which is not approved for use in hand sanitizers and could cause serious adverse reactions or death if swallowed.

The counterfeit version is labeled NPN 80098979, lot 6942; Expires May 2023 and is sold in a 250ml format.
