George Floydis honored and commemorated in his hometown… with new wall decor to be unveiled just in time for his birthday. The mural is being painted in the Houston neighborhood where George grew up and will be unveiled Monday at a special ceremony featuring his family and representative. Sheila Jackson Lee. Mayor of Houston Sylvester Turner is also invited.
Local artist Enter painted the mural. He tells us that George’s family asked him to create one in August, having previously presented the family with works of art by Floyd at his funeral.
The mural is prominently displayed on a wall outside a convenience store in the neighborhood George frequented. The business is a vital part of the community, so many people will see George’s face on the building. George would have turned 47 on Wednesday, and we’re told celebrating her next birthday is part of the inspiration behind the mural… plus a message to the community to “be the change” and vote.
George’s brothers, Rodney and Philonise, recently checked out the progress of the mural and Philonise says they want the art to send this message… “My family all feel like George can’t vote so everyone has to come out for George, for Breonna, for Ahmaud. “ The family adds… “He said he wanted to change the world, so here’s how we do it. By being the change. “
