BAMAKO, Mali (AP) – A 75-year-old French aid worker held hostage for four years by Islamic extremists in Mali has arrived in France, welcomed by President Emmanuel Macron. Sophie Petronin was freed with three other hostages from Mali and Italy this week, and landed on Friday at Villacoublay military airport southwest of Paris. Her family members wrapped her in a huge hug as she got off the plane. Macron expressed his joy and relief at his release, thanked the Malian authorities and pledged that the French army would continue its fight against terrorism in the region.
