PARIS (AP) – The office of French President Emmanuel Macron has said that France will restore the state of health emergency which expired on July 10.
No further measures come into effect with the decision announced on Wednesday, but it will allow the government to apply stricter measures in the future, whether at the local or national level. This decision is expected to take effect on Saturday.
France initially declared a state of health emergency in March, paving the way for the government to force citizens to stay at home in lockdown. Macron is speaking to the nation on television on Wednesday evening and may address other measures.
