PARIS, October 12 (Reuters) – The French government is ready to invest alongside Bridgestone to save a French factory that the Japanese tire maker plans to close, a minister said on Monday.

The French government is studying options to save jobs and keep the plant, which employs 863 people in Bethune, in northern France, open.

“If we could strike a balance with Bridgestone, we would invest the money,” Industry Minister Agnes Pannier-Runacher told LCP television.

“What we are saying to Bridgestone is to look at all the scenarios and not to exclude the scenarios on principle and we are ready to invest alongside them to give a future to the plant,” she said. added.

The government would meet with representatives of Bridgestone soon, she said, without specifying what form a potential investment might take. (Report by Jean-Stephane Brosse and Leigh Thomas in Paris edited by Matthew Lewis)
