PARIS (AP) – Rescuers in France and Italy are searching for casualties and providing emergency aid to residents after devastating floods hit a mountainous region on both sides of the border, killing at least four people. In Italy, authorities on Sunday recovered two dead bodies in northern Liguria which they said could have been washed away following storms that killed two other people on Saturday. French authorities have deployed around 1,000 firefighters, four military helicopters and troops to search for at least eight people still missing. The floods washed away houses and destroyed roads and bridges around the French city of Nice after an average rainfall of nearly a year in less than 12 hours. More than 100 houses were destroyed or badly damaged.
