Famous French monument, Mont-Saint-Michel is cut off from the world

In the space of a few hours, famous French tourist monument, Mont-Saint-Michel has temporarily become an island in the middle of high tides. The rare phenomenon occurs when the water surrounding the UNESCO World Heritage Site rises as fast as it recedes.

Located off the Normandy coast, the mountain, topped by its world-famous Benedictine abbey, traditionally welcomes up to two million visitors per year.

But on this occasion, tourists could only see it from a partially submerged road.
