An hour before kick-off, the No.11 Miami Hurricanes announced that eight players were “unavailable” for Saturday night’s game against Virginia. During the 2020 season, Miami has adopted the policy of adopting the policy of publishing an “unavailability report” one hour before kickoff. Miami has announced that the following players will be absent against Virginia: TE Brevin Jordan, DB Brian Balom, KG Corey Flagg, WR Michael Redding III, WR Xavier Restrepo, DL Elijah Roberts and QB Tyler Van Dyke.

Jordan is the biggest name of the group. This is the second game in a row Jordan has had after a shoulder injury at Clemson.

Flagg was starting to be shot for snaps as a backup linebacker. Now Bradley Jennings Jr. will probably get most of the shots.

Restrepo was emerging as Miami’s leading punt turner.

Balom, Redding, Roberts and Van Dyke are freshmen with minimal roles in attack or defense.

Washington, a transfer from Florida, has not been available all season.

The following players have chosen not to participate in the 2020 season or are absent for the season due to injury:

· OF Greg Rousseau (opt out)

· OL Kai-Leon Herbert (opt out)

· OL Zalon’tae Hillery (opt out)

· QB Tate Martell (opt out)

· DB Avantae Williams (end of season medical condition)

Rousseau, who is projecting himself as a first-round pick in the NFL draft, has chosen not to participate in the 2020 season due to COVID-19 concerns before the start of fall camp.

Williams is sidelined for the season due to “chronic and persistent medical issues” which were discovered in the fall. UM medical staff believe it is best for Williams to rest this fall and be re-evaluated after the season.

Herbert and Hillery have decided to retire from the 2020 season about a week before the season opens against UAB. Since they’re not available this season, the Hurricanes have first-year true right tackle Chris Washington listed as a backup right tackle on the official depth chart.

Martell has chosen not to participate in the 2020 season before the Louisville game.

Wide receiver Jeremiah Payton and tight end Larry Hodges were both unavailable for the Louisville game. It was the only game for which these players were not available.

Jordan was taken out of action last week against Pittsburgh.

Miami (4-1, 3-1) enters the game after a 31-19 victory over Pittsburgh.

Virginia (1-3) enters the game after losing three straight games, dropping out of contests at Clemson, NC State and Wake Forest.

On Saturday morning, William Hill Sports’ book called the Hurricanes a 13.5-point favorite.
