David Crosby retracts Eddie Van Halen comments, says he forgot guitarist “had just died”

David Crosby took to Twitter to apologize for the controversial comments about the late Eddie Van Halen last week. The singer-songwriter was the victim of backlash online when he said that Van Halen “doesn’t move me much” and that he “doesn’t care much” about the guitarist’s music.

Crosby also said that Van Halen’s musical skills were pale in comparison to Jimi Hendrix’s.

“Hendrix changed the world of the guitar. No one else really, ”he nodded.

Perhaps the most dismissive of all was Crosby’s first word about Van Halen’s career: “meh”.

Now Crosby has gone back to his comments, admitting that he didn’t realize the guitarist had passed away recently.

“Yeah, you Van Halen fans, I just threw in a response that wasn’t cool,” Crosby wrote in a tweet Oct. 14.

“The even more embarrassing truth is… I didn’t even remember that he had just died or I would have kept my mouth shut…. I make mistakes… without wanting to offend ”.

David Crosby’s first comments drew the wrath of several notable musicians, including Dee Snider of Twisted Sister and Tracii Guns of LA Guns.

“I have always hated [David Crosby] AND his mustache, ”Snider wrote in response to Crosby’s initial comments.

Eddie Van Halen died on October 6 following a battle with throat cancer. Tributes from several of Van Halen’s contemporaries, including Tony Iommi, Sammy Hagar and Ozzy Osbourne.
