Cyprus faces quarantine, Jamaica could get travel lane

Britual holidaymakers hoping to visit Cyprus this semester might be disappointed, as the country risks losing its travel lane in Grant Shapps’ update this afternoon. But Jamaica vacations could be back on the cards.

In recent weeks, the number of Covid-19 cases has increased in this Mediterranean island country. The country registered 127 cases yesterday, up from 51 this time last week and 21 the week before.

The brings the number of cases per 100,000 over seven days to 59.6 – higher than the threshold of 20, after which a quarantine is being considered by the British government. In Germany the cases are 54.5 per 100,000 and Sweden 56.2.

Jamaica, however, could be in a travel corridor as its cases drop to 15.8 per 100,000. As of August 31, the daily cases in this Caribbean country peaked at 244. They are now at 71.

Grant Shapps is due to make an announcement on the UK travel red list at 5 p.m. In recent weeks, popular holiday destinations including Italy, mainland Portugal and Turkey have lost their travel lanes, meaning Britons returning to the UK must go into 14-day quarantine .
