COVID NYC Update: Historic Roosevelt Hotel to Close Due to Losses Due to Pandemic


NEW YORK CITY (WABC) – After nearly 100 years in business, Manhattan’s historic Roosevelt Hotel will close due to financial losses from the coronavirus pandemic, with the hotel scheduled to close in late October.It has nearly 500 employees, some of whom were laid off in March, while others were still on duty.The Roosevelt Hotel opened in 1924, located on East 45th Street, just off Madison Avenue .

A spokesperson for the hotel issued the following statement:

Due to the current unprecedented environment and the uncertain impact of COVID-19, the owners of the Roosevelt Hotel have made the difficult decision to close the hotel and associates were notified this week. The iconic hotel, along with most of New York, has seen very low demand and as a result the hotel will cease operations before the end of the year. There is currently no plan for the building beyond the scheduled closure.
