Liverpool leaders confirm army recruiting as level 3 lockdown looms
Liverpool leaders have confirmed the city is on the verge of being plunged into a local Level 3 lockdown.
Pubs, bars, gyms, betting shops, casinos and adult gaming centers in Liverpool, Wirral, Knowsley, Sefton, St Helens and Halton will be closed.
The military is also in the process of being enlisted to provide “logistical and capability support” and the region is to receive a six-month package of financial support from the government.
Merseyside local authority leaders and mayors issued a statement confirming the plans this morning.
“We have made it clear that we do not believe that the recently announced Furlough program is adequate and that businesses in the region, especially those in the hotel industry and those that serve it, will be damaged and many will suffer damage to long term or will close permanently. The government has said very, very clearly that it will not change or improve the program, ”part of the letter read.
“We have also challenged the government on other issues, such as Track & Trace, application and funding of city and local authorities to deal with the funding crisis and manage our budgets this year and the ‘next year.”
