Coronavirus Sack New England Patriots Again As NFL Disruption Intensifies | NFL

The New England Patriots canceled training on Friday after a member of the organization tested positive for Covid-19, a person familiar with the decision told The Associated Press.

The person, speaking on condition of anonymity as the team and the NFL did not announce the positive test, did not disclose whether it was a player or a coach.

New England have already twice postponed the original Week 5 game against Denver following four positive coronavirus tests from players, including quarterback Cam Newton and cornerback Stephon Gilmore. The game is scheduled for Sunday in Foxborough, Massachusetts, but could now be in jeopardy.

Earlier on Friday, the Indianapolis Colts closed their training facility after “several people” tested positive for Covid-19, then the retests came back negative and the building reopened.

“Earlier this morning, we were informed that four people within the organization have tested positive for Covid-19,” the team said in a statement late in the morning. “All four positive samples were retested and confirmed negative.

“After consulting with the NFL and Chief Medical Officer Dr Allen Sills, the team will open the training facility this afternoon as part of the league’s intensive protocol and continue to prepare for Sunday’s game against Cincinnati.

In other NFL coronavirus developments:

• The Browns de Cleveland, who faced the Colts on Sunday, had no positive test on Friday morning and their building is open. The negatives included one for star receiver Odell Beckham Jr, who was ill and sent home on Thursday.

• The Atlanta Falcons They resumed face-to-face work at their facility on Friday under stricter security measures. The team had closed the building on Thursday following a second positive test for Covid-19.

“With the intensive regulation alone, the mask protocol is very effective,” said interim head coach Raheem Morris. “We have to do some of these different types of deals. Masks on the field, separation of the players on the field. In-person meetings only in two areas: the team meeting room and the indoor facility. All of these things that we had to implement.

“Organize meetings all virtual or in one of these two facilities as well. Just take the ultimate precaution in these uncertain times, especially when talking about Covid. Everything about the disease and the Covid and what we have to face, I will follow at the highest level and protect the team at all costs, even if it means putting an end to a practice like yesterday.

The Falcons are on additional intensive NFL protocols as they regroup for Sunday’s game in Minnesota.

Rookie defensive tackle Marlon Davidson was placed on the Covid-19 / reserve list on Tuesday and the second person, who is not a player, then tested positive.

Additional protocols the Falcons must follow include daily testing and masks worn at all times. Meetings should take place virtually or outdoors or in a large indoor room with a social distance of 6 feet.

• The Titans du Tennessee played Tuesday after a 16-day layoff due to an outbreak.
