Conor McGregor says he accepts January 23 game against Dustin Poirier

It looks like Conor McGregor is ready to back down on his initial request for a fight before the end of 2020.Shortly after UFC president Dana White revealed that the promotion offered Dustin Poirier as McGregor’s opponent on January 23 and that he was unwilling to book the fight any earlier, the former champion of the two divisions accepted the date on Twitter. McGregor added that he was targeting Cowboys Stadium as a potential venue for the event, which was not officially announced by the promotion. “I accept, it’s January 23!” McGregor wrote on Twitter. “My goal is to see this fight take place at Cowboy Stadium. Appropriate style!
[Cowboys owner] Jerry Jones is a friend and the stadium can contain our crowd. I’ll be ready for Texas and Texas will be ready for my fans! Then Manny.

The last part of the post states that McGregor is still aiming for a boxing match with Manny Pacquiao at some point in the future. McGregor initially offered a charity show fight with Poirier in Ireland before the UFC responded with his offer.

McGregor defeated Poirier by TKO in the first round in a featherweight contest at UFC 178 in September 2014. The SBG Ireland rep last appeared at UFC 246, where he stopped Donald Cerrone in 40 seconds on January 18.
