A computer error has been blamed on a huge rise in coronavirus cases today, with cases in Nottinghamshire reportedly increasing by 989.A total of 15,841 cases were recorded between September 25 and October 2 but were not included in previous daily updates due to a technical issue.

“After a quick investigation, we identified that 15,841 cases between September 25 and October 2 were not included in the daily reported covid-19 cases. The majority of these cases have occurred in recent days.

“Each of these cases received their covid-19 test result as normal and everyone who tested positive was advised to self-isolate.

“NHS Test and Trace and PHE worked to quickly resolve the issue and immediately moved all outstanding cases to the NHS Test and Trace contact tracing system and I would like to thank my contact tracing and protection colleagues. health for their extra efforts over the weekend.

“We fully understand the concern this may cause and strong new measures have been put in place as a result.”
