City schools start random monthly coronavirus tests

NEW YORK – Random monthly COVID-19 testing began Friday at 50 public schools in the city.Between 10 and 20 percent of students and staff at each school participate in the program, led by city officials and the teachers’ union.

Parents or guardians of students under the age of 18 must complete an online consent form for students to take tests.

The random sample of students will be tested one day per month and will receive their results within 28 hours.

The state also demanded that the city’s 308 schools in the yellow zone begin weekly tests.

It should start next Friday.
