City of St. John’s collects pumpkins for compost

The City of St. John’s encourages people to consider composting when it comes time to remove your jack o ‘lanterns this year.Porches and windows will be filled with flickering faces this Halloween as people get into the holiday spirit. But to avoid a bad trick, authorities are encouraging people to remove pumpkins from your property after the celebrations.

A simple solution, the city suggests, is to consider composting.

City crews will pick up your pumpkin from the curb the next day for recycling, provided it is placed in a paper bag.

In addition, a pumpkin collection site will be set up on the boulevard on November 1 from noon to 5 p.m. for people who wish to drop off their jack o ‘lantern.

The harvested pumpkins will be composted for use in city parks.
