Chris Christie enters second week in hospital for COVID-19

Chris Christie is entering his second week in hospital, making his battle with the coronavirus the most serious among those in President Trump’s inner circle, CNN reported on Friday evening. The former governor of New Jersey told the network he was treated with remdesivir, the same antiviral treatment Trump took while in hospital.

Sources who spoke with Christie as recently as Wednesday night told The Post and other media that he was doing well – but there have been few updates on his health since then.

Unlike other elderly Republicans who have had close contact with Trump – who are either recovering at home or repeatedly taking tests to see if they have been infected – Christie has been hospitalized longer than for the average COVID-19 patient.

Christie tweeted on Saturday – 7 days ago – that he had checked in at a New Jersey hospital out of caution after testing positive for the virus.

The median hospital stay for COVID-19 in countries outside of China is five days, according to the BMC medical journal.

His successor, Gov. Phil Murphy, told on Thursday that Christie was “the quintessential Jersey fighter.”
