A zoo worker was mutilated to death by a group of bears over the weekend in China as visitors stared at him in horror. The horrific incident happened on Saturday in the “wild beast” exhibit at Shanghai Wildlife Park, the BBC reported.

Images posted on Chinese social media platform Weibo show park visitors screaming from inside a tour bus as a group of bears run towards and surround the employee, Australian media reported ABC News.

” There is someone! One of the park visitors shouts, while another can be heard asking, “What’s going on?”

The Shanghai Wildlife Park said it was “saddened” by the employee’s death in a statement posted on its website.

“Our park is extremely saddened by such a tragedy, expressing its sincere condolences to the deceased, expressing its deep sympathy to the families of the deceased and apologizing for the inconvenience caused to the tourists,” the statement said.

It is not known what type of bears were involved or if they will stay in the wildlife park.

The exhibit has been temporarily closed to visitors as the park works with local authorities to investigate the incident, the zoo said.
