The Chinese military has simulated a full-scale amphibious invasion as Taiwan celebrated its national day over the weekend, the latest in a series of exercises increasing tensions in the region.
Beijing, which has increased pressure on Taiwan in independent government in recent months, said it had foiled “hundreds of espionage attempts” by agents on the island to sabotage efforts to reunify it with the mainland.
