Chelsea could have one over their London rivals by signing one of Mikel Arteta’s main goals ahead of Monday’s 11pm transfer deadline, according to reports. Arsenal are desperate for a central midfielder and are keeping a close watch on Houssem Aouar and Thomas Partey.

The Gunners have seen two offers for Lyonnais Aouar rejected this week and they are preparing a third offer. The French side will likely accept costs of around £ 45million.

Meanwhile, residents of north London are also considering following their interest in Atletico Madrid’s Partey, which has a £ 45million release clause.

Relations between the two clubs are considered good as they are negotiating a separate transfer for Lucas Torreira.

However, Arsenal might find it increasingly difficult to sign Partey as Chelsea are apparently ready to enter the race.

“Well, I’m very confident in what we’re trying to do internally,” he said.

« [I am getting] clarity and support from everyone at the club to try to improve the team if we can.

“But above all, to find the right balance in the team, for the moment and how we want to develop the team in the future.

“We’re all very aligned but I’m afraid I can’t give you any updates or news. ”
